PET must be crystallized before drying: amorphous pellets soften and stick together when heated, which would block the drying hopper and the extruder throat. The pre-crystallizer first converts the pellets into a stable crystalline form, then the dehumidifying dryer reduces the moisture content to a very low level, because residual moisture hydrolyzes the PET chain and causes IV loss, haze and brittleness in the finished sheet.
After plasticizing in a parallel twin-screw extruder, the melt is filtered to remove gels and contaminants (particularly important when rPET flakes are used) and delivered at constant pressure by a melt pump for uniform gauge. The melt passes through a flat die onto a three-roll polishing stack that determines the sheet's optical clarity and surface quality. Inline thickness gauging with closed-loop die adjustment, edge trimming and a stable haul-off and winding/cutting section complete the line, keeping the finished PET sheet within tight thickness and clarity tolerances for thermoforming applications.

The installation and commissioning scope for this project covers the main extrusion system, die and forming section, cooling and haul-off equipment and the downstream finishing or winding unit.
