Saudi Arabia 1,000 kg/h PP Sheet Extrusion Project

Project Summary

In Saudi Arabia, JWELL supplied a PP sheet extrusion line. The line is rated for a stated capacity of 1,000 kg/h and is configured for a finished product width of 900 mm, producing PP sheets (rigid polypropylene sheet) in an ABA three-layer structure. The project highlights a high single-line output of 1,000 kg/h. The complete scope covers the four-component automatic weighing and dosing system, a two-extruder co-extrusion system, a dual-column automatic screen changer, a gear (melt) pump, an ABA feedblock, a flat T-die, a J-type three-roll polishing calender, a corona treatment unit, in-line edge trimming with an in-line granulator, the cooling cradle with haul-off, sheet accumulation and an automatic winder. Customer Background

This project required a production solution for PP sheet in Saudi Arabia. The customer operates in the Middle East and commissioned the line in 2026 to supply PP sheets (rigid polypropylene sheet) for lightweight packaging and thermoforming sheet and related applications.

Compared with standard single-layer flat extrusion, an ABA three-layer co-extrusion line at 900 mm finished width with a stated output of 1,000 kg/h places higher demands on layer distribution, melt distribution, thickness control, cooling, web handling and the coordination of the complete production line.

Customer Requirements and Project Challenges

- A PP sheet co-extrusion line with a stated output of 1,000 kg/h

- Finished product width of 900 mm

- ABA three-layer (A/B/A) structure with stable layer distribution

- Consistent thickness control and stable product quality across the full width

- Corona-treated surface for downstream printing or lamination

- In-line edge trimming with granulation and recycling of trimmed edges

- Stable continuous operation suitable for routine industrial production

- Coordinated J-type three-roll calender, haul-off and downstream handling equipment

- [Additional customer-specific requirements and quality standards to be confirmed]

JWELL Customized Solution

JWELL supplied a PP sheet co-extrusion line solution based on its JWELL PP sheet extrusion platform. The line combines a four-component automatic weighing and dosing system with a two-extruder co-extrusion section (a main single-screw extruder and a single-screw co-extruder), a dual-column automatic screen changer, a gear (melt) pump and an ABA feedblock that forms the A/B/A three-layer structure ahead of the flat T-die. The melt curtain is formed and polished on a J-type three-roll calender and corona-treated to improve surface adhesion for downstream printing or lamination; trimmed edges are granulated online by an in-line granulator and returned to the dosing system, and the finished sheet is wound on an automatic winder. The individual sections operate as one coordinated system to support consistent product formation, precise layer distribution and stable production.

The line was proposed at a stated output of 1,000 kg/h for a finished width of 900 mm. The final screw configuration, die size and downstream layout are defined during project review according to the raw material formulation, product specification and factory conditions. [Model numbers of the dosing system, screen changer, corona unit, granulator and automatic winder to be confirmed.]

Production Process

Four-component automatic weighing and dosing (virgin PP, color masterbatch, additive masterbatch and in-line regrind) → Two-extruder co-extrusion plasticizing → Dual-column automatic screen changer (melt filtration) → Gear (melt) pump metering → ABA feedblock (A/B/A layer distribution) → Flat T-die distribution → J-type three-roll polishing calender → Corona treatment → In-line edge trimming and winding → In-line granulation of trimmed edges (regrind returned to dosing) → Cooling cradle → Haul-off unit → Accumulator → Automatic winder

PP has low moisture uptake, so no intensive drying is normally required. Virgin PP resin, color and additive masterbatches and in-line regrind are fed by a four-component automatic weighing and dosing system into the co-extrusion section, where a main single-screw extruder plasticizes the core melt and a co-extruder plasticizes the outer-layer melt. The two melt streams are filtered by a dual-column automatic screen changer, metered by a gear (melt) pump for a constant volume and combined by an ABA feedblock into an A/B/A three-layer structure. The three-layer melt is distributed by a flat T-die onto a J-type three-roll polishing calender; each roll is individually temperature-controlled, and the rolls together set the surface gloss, flatness and thickness of the sheet. The sheet is then corona-treated to improve surface adhesion for downstream printing or lamination, trimmed to the finished width and wound. Trimmed edges are granulated by the in-line granulator and returned to the dosing system to reduce waste. The finished sheet passes over the cooling cradle, is drawn by the synchronized haul-off unit through the sheet accumulator and is finally wound into rolls on the automatic winder, ready for converting, thermoforming and packaging applications.

Note: The final line configuration can be adjusted according to the raw material formulation, product thickness, surface structure, roll width, production capacity and the level of automation required.
